Student Cities Coach!

Well its been a long while since I’ve had good ol chin wag on the blog, but what better time than now aye? We’ve been super busy on the farm getting lots of little and big name projects out into the market and some of you would have noticed… like Palmerston North’s new Student City brand.

The last hurrah for Vicky V

“Fill it up again! It’s so good! Once it hits your lips it’s so good!” A quote from good old Frank the Tank that resonates with me, why in life are the things that are just so good usually so bad? With two broken legs in the last 2.5 years and research to prove the claim that energy drinks are linked to osteoporosis ive made the executive decision to give up the leg breakers, im going cold turkey… no more energy drinks, its haere ra to vicky v.

There are so many differing factors that come together inside your head when your in the zone creating that something for yourself or your client… its the creative experience that I thrive on daily. Part of that experience is having fun and similar minded people working around me (you know who you are) and another is having an ever evolving sound permeating within the walls you’re working in.

All the world is a laboratory to the inquiring mind.

I’m all about quotes, and the title of my blog is no exception. We as human beings never stop learning. I am very lucky in my job at blacksheepdesign to be constantly discovering new and interesting things. Whether it be research into the early history of accounting for a branding, or researching the process of aseptic bottling. We as designers have to delve into areas we would never normally consider, to gather the information we need in order to design accordingly – this has got to be one of the best aspects of my job.

Metro & Yarra

Yep - it must be in the water over there in Melbourne cause its seems like the whole city is going under brand review or renew.

The Melbourne train and tram service contracts have been renewed… and with that, some new brandings too.

Because you’re worth it…

Perusing through the interweb I always come across something innovative… something cool… and something I want to have! I even have a whole bookmark folder dedicated to the day I make it big and blow out my credit card in importing lots of little gadgets, nic-nacs and other things that will increase my perceived cool factor tenfold!

These headphones are one of these items.

If I had to pick one thing that I absolutely love to do in my job, hands down it would be branding. Branding matters the most – it’s the smiling face, the moving lips and even the winking eye of a company that wants to communicate with its customers. In a world of so much choice and competition, brands are the most effective way of cutting through the noisy clutter to reach people’s hearts and minds.

So in a time with so much talk of recession this and recession that… it’s refreshing to see a supermodel strut through the crowd, stop and give you a wink.

I gave Dad a 6 pack of combs for Fathers Day once, as you can imagine, Dad was stoked. Might I redeem myself 20 years later with this cool and solid statement? There’s no beating around the bush, it’s to the point. And it helps that the point is cut out of wood, which is perfectly manly…

Simple wins!

So, I found this really sexy watch by Issey Miyake, but for some reason I can’t purchase in NZ. So this little number will have to do instead.

And the more I look at it, the more I can’t wait for it too arrive. It’s so simple. Comes in a million shades of ‘look-at-me’ including a highlighter/fluorescent range. Yummo. Yup, the more simple it is, the more successful. It’s also waterproof, perfect for my swimming challenge.

As for NZ watch importers, why can’t we see Issey in the shops here?
